The Art of Cycling
There has always been a close link between cycling & design and now more than ever are we seeing that relationship blossom.
There could be a number of reasons for this, maybe it's the geometry of the bike that appeals to a designers' aesthetic eye or maybe the same part of the brain is used when creating a typographic grid as when adjusting gear ratios? Whatever it maybe, the emotion of grabbing the bike and heading out on the open road is akin to that feeling when the nugget of a creative idea is formed. The feeling of excitement and untold possibilities.
One example of the link between cycling and creativity is particularly clear in the stunning posters that celebrate the Peace Races of the mid 20th century. The race was established in 1948, primarily to showcase the prowess of amateur Eastern Bloc riders. Every year a poster was created to help capture and promote the energy and excitement of a race that millions lined the streets to witness. The posters truly capture the spirit and dynamism of the race and are a testament to great design.
